NYFW: Candid Look Love - Derek Lam

When I first saw Derek Lam's Spring 2011 designs, the first thing I thought was how I could actually see myself in most of the ensembles. While I love fashion that shows the true imagination of the designer, there's nothing like couture you truly see yourself in.

Lam's collection the epitome of what I'd dream for my ideal Spring wardrobe. Long lines and silhouettes with a tinge of classic detail - oh a girl can dream! There was something slightly dated about Derek's offerings that seemed to work well with the overall tone. Loose fitting pants were dressed up by adding a crisp white shirt and chunky wedges. Dresses of all lengths were made from muted solid-toned fabrics as well as bolder prints on silkier threads. Each look was as whimsical as it was structured - a good mix IMO.

Derek presented a collection was fresh, clean, and above all - easily approachable and without doubt wearable. These looks are polished and aged yet young and fun. I absolutely love it!

My favorite?
The flowing tunics, dresses, and shifts that evoked the graceful casualty of Spring with the glamour of high-fashion.

Get the Look: Zac Posen Spring 2011 Hair

From the fashionable LollieShopping.com...

Backstage at Z Spoke by Zac Posen, a team of 18 hair stylists transformed the runway models into “modern-day Marie Antoinettes ready to hit the streets of NYC,” says got2b celeb stylist Larry Sims. The show featured three distinct hairstyles (created with lead direction by Odile Gilbert) with one common theme: CURLS, CURLS and more CURLS!

Not only were the looks modern, chic and downright cool, but they are so easy to create at home. All you need is a ¼ inch curling iron, got2b hairspray and these DIY tips provided by the master himself Larry Sims.

Whether you want to rock the Deconstructed BunPlayful Pony, or French Twist, start with these curling instructions, then follow the specific steps for the hairstyle you want to achieve.

Curling Instructions
Using a ¼ inch curling iron, stylists curled the model’s entire head, being sure to curl the sections in opposite directions. Sims says that this curling technique “allows ringlets to look and feel more organic.” Stylists sprayed the curled strands with got2b 2sexy hairspray for hold and shine.

Deconstructed Bun
Sims explains that this look is meant to look a bit messy. After curling the hair, he recommends brushing the hair out “almost until it’s frizzy,” then pulling it into a bun on the very top of the head, leaving a few loose tendrils along the hairline. Be sure to set the style with got2b 2sexy hairspray.

Playful Pony
These bouncy up-dos complemented the flirty mini dresses in the Spring 2011 collection. After the whole head is curled, Sims says to brush the hair back into a pony, smoothing strands with got2b’s cashmere-infused smooth operator hairspray. Just like the deconstructed bun, a few loose tendrils should be left around the hairline. If you want to give your pony a little extra bounce, Sims recommends spraying the curled pony with got2b’s collagen-infused fat-tastic root-boosting spray.

French Twist (with a twist!)
You’ve never seen a French twist like this before! This hot rocker-chic look featured a French roll in the back, accented with a curly quaff on the forehead. Sims suggests you “curl the front of your hair into small sections and then pull the rest back, twist and secure with a few pins so it still looks undone.” The front curls should be held in place with got2b 2sexy hairspray, while the twist should be held with got2b smooth operator hairspray to achieve the soft, polished look.

NYFW: Strut London - A Party for the Senses

Everyone has old favorites when it comes to music, clothes, even food. What's better than an old favorite? What will become new favorites, of course! When I first heard the words "Strut London", two things came to mind. Fashion and London - need any more reason to be interested? Strut London promised to bring the very essence of London fashion and arts to The Big Apple.

So fashion's slaves-slash-scribes gathered for the unveiling of Selma Starfinger's Spring & Summer offerings for 2011. Hudson Terrace housed 150 guests as inspiration from the chic streets of London decorated the runway. Selma coordinates looks that are striking yet understandable with a flair that's signature in fabric and details. She's made a name all over the world with clientele like Rihanna and Coco Rocha. (Not to mention prizes from the likes at China Fashion Week!)

Plus, DJ Xo-Chic spun beat after beat - the perfect companion to Starfinger's designs. Her beats have set the scene for Basso & Brooke, Louis Vuitton and Cartier… just to name a few! Strong dance-worthy tones filled the Terrace leaving notes of disco and pop. With eye-catching fashion and a beat to keep you dancing, Strut London was a party for the senses - one that last all night.

My favorite?

PS - StrutLondon will be the first of many events so stay tuned! All proceeds benefit PeaceFirst so you definitely won't want to miss out. It's fashion doing good!

NYFW: Candid Look Love - Organic by John Patrick

Image courtesy of Style.comI can't help but love John Patrick's Organic. The Organic style pays tribute to classic American sportswear with a green-theme. These clothes are easy to live in and highly fashionable yet oddly approachable. For Spring 2011, Patrick chose to play to the season of choice. There was a mix of bright colors and dainty details with a touch of structure.

My favorite? To the left, high-waisted shorts and a lace top with boyfriend blazers and Oxfords! It made me think roof-top garden party in the city. I love it!
